Big Tex Invades the Sears Tower

So I was working on my finals and decided that I needed to take a break. Since I have been in Chicago, I have spent no time doing the traditional site seeing that many people who visit chicago do. Infact in my four years in Hartford, I never did the traditional Hartford site seeing! Now granted that Hartford has nothing worth seeing in the first place, its still pathetic that I never got out and saw the city. So thats why I wanted to see a few things in Chicago.

So. today I went to the Sears Tower. It was a fun expedition. I got on the Red Line at Addison and rode to the Monroe stop. At Monroe I walked 2 blocks to Clark then turned at Clark and headed up Jackson. The Sears Tower is 110 stories at its height and is the tallest building in the world. I entered the building and ofcourse met up with the usual security procession that would accompany such an attraction. Once clearing security I proceded down the elevator to buy tickets. After purchaisng my ticket, I was ushered into a small video screening room.

The 8 minute video was about the history of chicago. It was an interesting movie which talked about how CHicago started out as a small rural town and became a city when the railroads brought people into chicago. They came to sell farm animals, grain, and utilized Chicago's unique position on Lake Michigan.

After the movie we walked around a few interesting exhibits which related to chicago and finally the main elevator. It took less then a minute to climb 103 floors (not 110) and get to the observation areas. Today was a relativly clear day and we had a 30-40 mile viewing range. I was able to see Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan from the tower. Also I was able to see Soldier Field, The United Center, USS Cellular field, and Wrigley.

But what was really good was gettign a certain sense of direction. People have made comments to me in regards to the direction of something. Since visiting the tower, I have developed a more acute sense of direction. Its better late then never, but Big Tex is starting to figure out Chitown...
